Summary of the 2009/2010 Board Objectives
PRESIDENT
To promote the vision of 'Making Women Winners' through the this year’s theme of 'Starting at Home'. This will be done by pursuing the following objectives:
- Increase in the total membership of AFETT
- Better networking
- Closer ties between members
PRESIDENT ELECT
The main project for the President Elect this year will be to address our mission statement - 3.1 'To provide mentoring opportunities for women entering OR re entering the work force; by establishing a mentorship committee. The committee will be an explorative one that will be open to new and innovative ideas on mentorship initiatives that suit the lifestyle of the busy AFETT woman who despite her time constraints wishes to give back!
RESEARCH & PUBLIC ADVOCACY
Key objectives:
International Women's Day (March 8th, 2010)
The aim of this project is to celebrate an outstanding female (contributor to local prosperity, productivity or wellness. Our 2nd annual International Women’s Day luncheon will be held in March 2010, expanded to include media participation and 60 participants, through early planning and communication.
Child Care Solutions
Following on from the 2008 Symposium the committee continues to work on a Child Care Solutions White Paper, with the intent to present a draft to stakeholders (ILO, UWI, Ministries, symposium participants, ECA, etc) at a brainstorming / feedback symposium in September / October 2009. The presentation of the final paper should be made in early 2010. Project objectives are to secure GoRTT funding for more detailed research and to influence legislative change.
Top Five
AFETT's 2nd Top Five Project will be launched to the public. The timeline and budget are being revised, but the Association is aiming for early 2010. Market Facts and Opinions has been contracted to conduct the research which shall include 100 companies and an expanded questionnaires.
Other Projects
RPA committee to host 1 or 2 membership meetings on relevant current topics, such as E-Waste and Going Green, Road Safety and Pay Inequity. We are also meeting with the Ministry of Education to explore reissuing the Career Book, first published in 2005.
FUNDRAISING AND SPECIAL EVENTS
Key objectives:
- Contribute to raising the profile of AFETT
- Contribute to the efficient operation of the Association
- Play our part in helping women on a limited budget achieve a professional image
- Build relationships with corporate sponsors to achieve success with projects undertaken by the Association
- Through our fundraising efforts, establish a fund for the development of young women

PROGRAMMES COMMITTEE
Key objectives:
- To keep the AFETT membership constantly engaged, excited and titillated through hosting topical meetings and events that meet members’ social and professional needs
- To facilitate greater interaction among members through regular and consistent meetings
- To vary meeting types among three areas – networking, professional development and pure fun

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Key objectives:
“Establishing Linkages – converting members to partners”

- Maintain a current AFETT Membership Directory
- Add Value for existing members: AFETT member showcase: share, show & tell

- AFETT Member Recognition
FINANCE
Key objectives:
- To ensure comprehensive Financial Procedures. The document provides guidance to our directors on how matters with financial implications are to be handled
- To ensure an efficient Operating Budget. This is critical to the management of association finances as it projects the Revenues and Expenditure for the year’s operations.
- To recruit Committee Members. A good and committed support team is critical in carrying out finance functions
COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
Key Objectives:
- To rationalize, implement and continue an effective Public Relations system including all communications to members and AFETT’s dialogue with the outside world
- To provide focused advice and communications support to all Committees of AFETT thus enhancing the impact of its programmes
- The communications team aims to do the following:
- Conduct quarterly refurbishing of the AFETT Website to make it more interactive.
- To reintroduce Take Note in order to rationalize internal communications.
- Ramp up our publicity campaign in line with advocacy efforts and AFETT projects.
- Provide the best core framework for high visibility of projects and a foundation for next year's committee
SECRETARY
- To maintain a register of all members and keep minutes of all meetings of the Board and meetings of the Association
- To organize and ensure the proper record keeping of all Board and Special Meetings.
- To keep the Associations records
- To ensure that the Association complies with Trinidad & Tobago legislation and the Association By-Laws
Special projects:
- Creation of a digital archive of all files from the past years.
