AFETT embarked on an exciting partnership with the St Francois Girls College in Belmont, to assist at least 40 of their Form 4 students in finding short-term summer employment.
The programme aimed to offer participating students a high quality learning experience in a business environment relevant to their own area of professional interest, as an important step in bridging the gap between school and work, ensuring they are future-ready. St. Francois Girls College was recently designated a Business Magnet School by the Ministry of Education and this program forms part of their B-Tech Diploma in Business Administration and Retail certification, which the students receive in addition to CXC.
Companies were invited to participate in the programme under the following outline:
Programme Duration
July 16th to 27th, 2007
Profession
Companies were matched with student(s) who expressed a desire to work in the same field and/or industry.
Salary
A daily stipend was paid to cover basic expenses.
Assessment
Participating companies were asked to assess the students assigned to them, using a clearly defined criterion, at the end of the programme.
