AFETT Inspires Youth at Inaugural Youth Convention
AFETT's Immediate Past President, Cavelle Joseph, represented AFETT at Trinidad and Tobago’s first Trinidad and Tobago Youth Convention on August 27.
The Trinidad and Tobago Youth Council hosted the event in partnership with the University of the West Indies and many sponsors. Cavelle was one of several panellists who appeared at the event to hold meaningful discussions with young people aged 15 to 30.
The event was conceptualised by Nikoli Edwards, Vice Chairperson of Policy, Advocacy and Projects of the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC), with the objectives “engage” “inspire” and “empower” local youth. According to Edwards, it was meant to “[bring] together youth to highlight their achievements and advances, while also acknowledging the many issues and challenges still affecting them today. We hope to capture the experiences of young people, which will be used in shaping the development of youth policies, significant to the reality of persons falling within the relevant age group in Trinidad and Tobago”.
