AFETT Looks Forward to Partnership with First Citizens Bank
in Advocating for the End of Violence Against Women
On Tuesday 30th January 2018, AFETT’s President, Mrs. Charlene Pedro, accompanied by Board members Yolande Agard-Simmons - President-Elect, and Caron Greaves - Secretary, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Dexter Charles, Group Corporate Communications Manager of First Citizens, to say thank you to one of AFETT’s key partners and to identify synergies between the two organisations.
First Citizens was a corporate sponsor of AFETT’s 2017 edition of the International Women’s Day Women of Influence Awards & Mentorship Celebration.
During the discussions, Dexter shared that First Citizens’ mandate now includes addressing women and girls’ issues. Charlene sought the opportunity to highlight the synchronicity of that mandate with the existing Mentorship Programme executed by AFETT.
Dexter told the group about the Bank’s ‘Pink Credit Card - the Card for a Cause - Ending Violence Against Women’, and plans for re-branding and re-launching, along with the possibility of partnering with AFETT on extending the reach for this CSR initiative since part proceeds from the use of this card go towards ‘ending violence against women’. The AFETT ladies educated Dexter about the annual November 25th International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This period is a potent time within which organisations the world over galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world …Dexter felt that this period represents an opportunity for re-launching with consequent brand recognition and adoption. He even spoke of the possibility of changing the colour pink since this is the universally accepted colour for cancer awareness, and thus causes some measure of confusion in the minds of the public in the context of the cause of this particular credit card, i.e. ending violence against women.
Following the cordial meeting, Charlene presented Dexter with a small token of appreciation from the Association.
Charlene was accompanied by Yolande Agard-Simmons, President-Elect, and Photographer, Caron Greaves, AFETT Secretary.
