Professional Networking - AFETT's January 2017 Meeting
AFETT Starts the Year with Networking and Sushi
A mix of professionals from a wide variety of careers and fields came together for an evening of making connections and eating sushi at AFETT’s Professional Networking Event at Roll Restaurant in Woodbrook. AFETT’s first meeting of 2017 was a session that included talks by successful connectors, networking exercises and lots of fruitful interactions. AFETT’s President-elect, Charlene Pedro, acted as the evening’s MC and emphasised the importance of “giving not getting” during networking interactions, and it became one of the main themes of the evening.
Special guests / connectors gave short presentations outlining their own networking experiences and gave advice. Dawn Richards, CEO, DRA Consulting, emphasised the importance of having a good volume of work to improve your reputation and being strategic in networking. She noted the importance of adding value wherever you go; observing “the universe always returns the favor”. Jason Lindsay, Director, Full Circle Animation, talked about his profession for organic networking and having real conversations. He noted the importance of listening and learning. AFETT’s Immediate Past President, Cavelle Joseph, talked about how networking helped her move up in her career. She emphasised the importance of loyalty and helping others develop.
In an impromptu moment, one of AFETT’s founders, Lara Quentrall-Thomas, spoke feelingly about how proud she was of how far AFETT had come and her attachment with the friends she has made through the organisation.
The participants also had the opportunity to participate in free networking - as well as structured exercises, as they chatted over drinks and sushi in the rooftop-atmosphere of Roll. They also had the chance to win prizes. Caribbean Concoctions provided two hampers for giveaways with local treats like bene balls, fruit cake and sugar cake. AFETT wishes to thank this distributor of tasty snacks for contributing to the success of the meeting.
