AFETT's August 2016 Meeting

Launch of the 2016/2017 Board's Strategic Plan

Several new AFETT members learned some valuable information about investing in themselves and about AFETT’s future during the first meeting led by AFETT’s new Board on Thursday August 18. A number of ladies gathered at Unit Trust Financial Centre in Port-of-Spain to learn more about how to plan for their financial goals and about the Board’s plans for AFETT’s 2016/2017 term.

Shamin Chainani, Marketing Officer at UTC, gave a personable and engaging presentation, explaining the options Unit Trust has for investors with options that vary from saving for retirement to planning the future of the children in our lives.

President Tricia Leid followed with a PowerPoint presentation that outlined the goals the Board had discussed in their strategic planning sessions over the course of several weeks. Odyssey Consult Inc. provided the Board with their support with their team of experts and office space - pro bono, to help guide AFETT in creating realistic and feasible plans for the future.

Tricia talked about AFETT’s vision, “To be the leading network for professional women in Trinidad and Tobago”. The emphasis will be on networking and community building, professional growth and development, advocating for change and mentoring. Tricia added that none of this could be properly achieved without fundraising efforts. Explaining the process of discovery, the Board had gone through during their planning, she outlined how each committee aligned with the goals, though there would be quite a bit of overlap between their objectives. She talked about some of the proposed plans for each committee, emphasising that the Board needed the investment of the members to make the goals happen through their participation, volunteering and sharing of ideas.

Besides the presentations, the assembled participants were able to enjoy the chance to win prizes from Unit Trust and the wine bar Unwined, which also had a variety of vintages for sampling.

Jennifer Gibbons-Joseph of CONEC Professional Coaching Services Ltd., also gave a prize of a free financial coaching session.

Unit Trust not only provided the members with a valuable presentation and venue for the event, but they made arrangements for safe and free parking facilities for the participants as well.

Our next meeting will be on September 22nd.
