AFETT and Habitat for Humanity Trinidad and Tobago's Women Build Program

Glenda Joseph-Dennis, AFETT member and Past Director of Research & Public Advocacy, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity's 'Women Build Program' in October 2017.

"It feels good to make a difference in another way, this time to the life of a challenged woman and her husband. I volunteered for HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Women Build Program over the weekend. Together we painted a house that was built in less than a month, landscaped and sowed plants and vegetables. Their life will not be the same. What a wonderful feeling! Thanks to HFH."

Her Excellency Carla Hogan Rufelds, Canadian High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, and Yolande Agard-Simmons, AFETT President Elect (2017/2018)

Her Excellency Carla Hogan Rufelds, Canadian High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, launched the Habitat for Humanity’s Annual ‘Women Build’ programme at a breakfast meeting on August 24, 2017.  Women Builds take place across the globe, and provide an excellent opportunity for female leaders to network, generate visibility and give back to communities through corporate social responsibility.

Her Excellency called on all the participating organisations to support her in building ‘A House for Kathy’, a resident of Sangre Grande; to provide a safe, stable and familiar environment for her family to live independently and in security.  Kathy, her husband Ellery and her son Lone live in a wooden house on the verge of collapse.  The floor is so precarious that Kathy has actually fallen through it.  The home is beyond repair, and Kathy is not able to rebuild, as she and her husband suffer serious health issues, and her son faces developmental challenges.

President-Elect of the Association, Yolande Agard-Simmons, was among the specially invited guests, along with AFETT founding member Lara Quentrall-Thomas, and Former AFETT Director – Glenda Joseph.

Yolande pledged AFETT’s support to the cause.  AFETT – as an Association – is thrilled to lend its support by participating in the Women’s Build scheduled for Saturday 28th October 2017 in Sangre Grande.

We invite you all to join us for a day of Painting and the Dedication Ceremony from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.  There is a contribution of $100TT per person (for T-Shirt, Safety Glasses and Work Gloves).

To register your interest, please email by Monday 23rd October 2017. Alternatively, you may register directly at with subject line: Women Build October 28, 2017 (AFETT Volunteer).
