AFETT's October 2016 Meeting
Fasten your Pink Ribbons!
AFETT Members Fasten their Pink Ribbons to Fight Breast Cancer
AFETT commemorated breast cancer awareness month by promoting health and wellness with two positive activities. The theme for our October meeting was “Fasten Your Pink Ribbons”, and it featured several dynamic speakers who approached the topic in various useful ways. Dr. Marissa Nimrod, Chairman of North Branch, Trinidad and Tobago Medical Association (TTMA), did an informative, in-depth session on breast cancer awareness. Dr. Safeeya Mohammed, inspirational speaker - Vice Chair of the T&T Medical Association, central branch for 2016, and TV host for “Doctor in the House”, delivered the feature presentation on women’s health and well-being, emphasising the importance of maintaining a happy balance in life and health. Jacqueline Thompson-Matamora, who was diagnosed with cancer and ultimately beat it, told her inspiring story to her fascinated audience.
Guardian Group sponsored the venue at Felix Mahadeo's Branch at One Woodbrook Place in Port-of-Spain, and provided some of the refreshments. Josianne Bovell represented Guardian Group, giving a presentation on their services.
The attendees expressed their appreciation for the energy of the event and the motivation they received to achieve balance in their lives and make healthy choices.
In addition, AFETT members participated in the popular annual Scotiabank Women Against Breast Cancer 5K to show fidelity to cancer patients and survivors, to promote healthy activity, and to support cancer research.
We hope that our members continue to work to take care of themselves in their daily lives! We would also like to thank Guardian Group for helping to make this event possible and Buttered Up for providing a door prize.
