AFETT President 2015/2016

President's Note - December 2015

The end of a year is a good time to look back, and reflect on achievements, and to look forward, to see what we still need to accomplish. In an organisation like the Association of Female Executives of Trinidad and Tobago (AFETT), with a committee based governance structure, supported by volunteers, the fact that we are able to achieve our strategic goals and deliver the plethora of programmes and initiatives is quite remarkable. As a Board we work as a whole, and as our activities for 2015 winds down and we hustle and bustle to complete last assignments to meet annual targets we will like to take a moment to remember all our accomplishments, of which we are particularly proud.  And at the outset I want to thank you all: our members, committee members, corporate partners, sponsors, well wishers, influencers, partners in service, and friends, for their support, and the work they have done in making the impact we have made this year.

As we prepare to start a new year we are encouraged by looking at the good aspects of our past and the glimmers of good fortune that lie in our future.  I do not believe we need fear the future, despite the tough times that lie ahead.  This remains a great nation, and AFETT remains a great organisation to be a member of, not only because of our rich past, but also because of our commitment to staying true to our Vision, Mission, Core Values and Constitution, which is the foundation.

The Association of Female Executives of Trinidad and Tobago (AFETT) was formed in 2002 to bring together female executives, exposing them to networking opportunities, leadership training and business ideas. The Board of the Association of Female Executives of Trinidad and Tobago (AFETT) for 2015-2016, has made it their mission to support and develop not only the female executives of Trinidad and Tobago, but also our entrepreneurs and girls. Not only did the Association provide and promote networking and professional opportunities to its members, but we focused on personal development, mentorship, the elimination of violence against women, the budget and the economy, entrepreneurship, the women development fund, education and other sectors of our society.

In 2015, we pursued initiatives that could advance women into full participation in the mainstream of Trinidad and Tobago in a meaningful way. We assure you of our commitment going forward, to keeping you engaged and involved, as we seek to be a major force in sweeping changes that will continue to see the advancement of women; increased educational, employment and business opportunities for women; and lobby for enactment of tougher laws against violence, harassment and discrimination and childcare solutions.

We can look ahead into 2016 with confidence, hope and resilience. We know that there are vast problems ahead and much more work to be done; we also know that we have the right resources to meet those challenges. Now, more than ever, we need your support, commitment, dedication and contributions. Why, you may ask? Because you are investing in an organization committed to creating better and stronger women, and by extension, families and communities – Making Women Winners!!!

As the New Year approaches us with new hopes, here is wishing you and your family a wonderful year ahead. Happy New Year!!!
