President's Note - September 2017
The Spirit of Generosity
I remember, as a child, my mother sharing one mango with my siblings and me. I was an adult when I had my first whole mango. As a nation, our willingness to share was tested as the hurricanes of September ravaged our neighbouring Caribbean islands and left many homeless. Whilst we had some naysayers amongst us, for the better part we rose to the occasion with an outpouring of love, food, clothing and building materials. AFETT supported the cause by encouraging members to donate items and collecting items for the relief efforts.
This same spirit of generosity was also evident as we prepared for Suit Me Up, our signature, fundraising event. We were overwhelmed and in awe, as members and supporting patrons donated and hundreds of bags of clothing poured in. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce for partnering with us and providing a wonderful venue for Suit Me Up 2017. We are so grateful to the companies and suppliers who supported our cause and to the dedicated members and individuals who made time to volunteer. Thank you also to our specially invited guests, who took time off from their schedules to join us. Everyone contributed to make the event a tremendous success. We could not have done it without you.
Suit Me Up 2017 was a wonderful occasion for women to shop, make friends and have some fun, whilst contributing to a good cause. Proceeds from the event will be used immediately to present bursaries to two female students of the University of the West Indies.
During the event, we received fantastic feedback from the heart of patrons that continues to inspire us to look beyond the late hours spent preparing for Suit Me Up and savour our reward in the impact we make on women’s lives. For many, this was an unforgettable experience. We thank everyone for their marvellous support, and more importantly, for joining us as we help in spreading the spirit of generosity.
