AFETT's September 2018 Mix & Mingle
AFETT & Deloitte
The Essentials of an Entrepreneur's Toolkit
AFETT Provides Aspiring Entrepreneurs with Toolkit for Business Success
October 5, 2018: “I wish to humbly offer that entrepreneurship is the new currency, the new normal,” explained Yolande Agard-Simmons, President of the Association of Female Executives of Trinidad and Tobago (AFETT) during her Welcome Address at the Association’s membership event on Thursday September 20 at Kapok Hotel, hosted with event partner, Deloitte. The theme of the sold out Mix and Mingle session was “The Essentials of an Entrepreneur’s Toolkit”, and it drew an eager audience of members and non-members.
Participants came to find out about kick starting their business growth, to gain advice on finances and financing and to understand how to access funds. The evening also allowed them to network with other professionals. Speakers included Sheree Welch, Managing Director, Sheree Welch and Associates Ltd, representing ACCA, who brought her vast knowledge of accounting, financial management, corporate governance, strategic business planning and more to the discussions. Kavita Singh – Senior Manager Audit and Venita Ramlal – Manager Audit, both of Deloitte, also delivered a riveting and participatory presentation to the packed audience. Participants raised questions about book keeping, registering their businesses and training opportunities.
“As an Association, representing female executives and female entrepreneurs, we felt it an absolute necessity to host a series of events focused on empowering
our entrepreneurs, many of whom are employed fully in organisations and moonlight as entrepreneurs, and some few who have taken the plunge and are at it 100%” explained Agard-Simmons.
She also observed that aspiring business owners sometimes do not take the time to engage in strategic planning. She hoped the session would encourage those assembled to begin employing these strategies.
Agard also took the time to thank Deloitte for partnering with the Association for the event.
Gratitude was also expressed to other event sponsors – Agard Boys Photography and SM Jaleel. Five (5) newly minted AFETT members received their pins; and AFETTpreneur Dulcie Furlonge owner of HBC Services was also featured at the event.
