Suit Me Up 2017
INSPIRED

Have you ever bought a new suit in advance of a really important meeting?

Have you watched it daily in your wardrobe, with mounting excitement, just believing that it would give you that added confidence to wow your audience as you delivered a winning presentation?

Then I guess you've just described SMU 2017!

Already a successful and eagerly-anticipated event on AFETT's annual calendar, SMU 2017 felt like that new suit.

Set in the more formal and commercial environment of the Trinidad & Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce and paired with the energy of new event partners Claudia Pegus, Richard Young and Simone Sant-Ghuran SMU 2017 presented the best qualities of Trinidad and Tobago. How so? I'm glad you asked! Inspiring, is actually the word that I think best describes the response to this year's fundraising event.

The generosity of so many women from across the country who heeded our call to clear out their wardrobes in support of other women was inspiring.

We were inspired by the dedication of AFETT's members existing and past, who committed their time, resources and sweat equity alongside board members to ensure that every aspect of the execution of this cherished event was professional.

Past Presidents did yeoman service at the event, interviewing entrepreneurs who invested in SMU by showcasing their services and products and themselves sharing with members and our customers, wonderful snippets of the event's history.

Inspired by our Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business Events Management volunteers who worked tirelessly at Friday evening's set up and on Saturday.

The fact that we had customers who'd participated in every SMU since inception was as inspiring as those who had left their homes in the far reaches of the country - Point Fortin and Fyzabad to be exact, at 5:30 am to position themselves even before our doors opened at 9:00 am to secure the excellent bargains that were on offer.

And who wouldn't be inspired by the husbands who supported their wives by standing shoulder to shoulder with them selecting suits and dresses? ...not a sight we see much anymore, but I think you'll agree, it's one to be encouraged.

So, you see, like all great ventures (and adventures), Suit Me Up on Saturday October 7, 2017, was the culmination of engaging many moving parts and where we experienced the best of the people with whom we served and those we serve.

We are grateful and inspired too by the support of our wonderful friends in the media, without whom we would not have achieved that connection with so many women who called after hearing and seeing an interview or hearing a service announcement about this flagship AFETT fundraising event.

Our President, Charlene Pedro summarised it best the following day when she declared that she was still experiencing the afterglow of the love, camaraderie and ultimately, the satisfaction of having worked with a team of women who, through hard work and dedication to the mission, had achieved their goal.

So, we close the book on another successful AFETT initiative for 2017 and like that new suit, we'll put it in storage until the day we reprise it for our next BIG DAY!
