‘Less is More’

AFETT brought the curtains down on another successfully executed Fund Raiser – its annual Suit Me Up event, which was hosted along with Sustainability Partner – Nature Seekers, at the Cruise Ship Complex in Port of Spain on Saturday 29th September 2018.  Part proceeds from this Fundraiser funds our community projects and our Annual Women’s Development Fund which sees us providing bursaries to two female University students for each academic year.


Hundreds of shoppers flocked to the venue, braving the traffic, to get their annual bargains.


A unique feature of the event this year was the Couch Conversation segment, hosted by CNC3’s Deputy Head of News and The Morning Brew presenter, Hema Ramkissoon.  She interviewed our Sustainability Partner – Nature Seekers. AFETT President, Yolande Agard-Simmons engaged a discussion on Suit Me Up's theme - ‘Less is More’, as we join the international community in recycling efforts and reducing waste. 


Agard-Simmons also spoke to the ‘need for providing affordable and quality clothing for the professional woman. 


Participating in the Conversation as well were Past President, Cavelle Joseph, Head HR, NIPDEC, who spoke about work-appropriate attire for attending interviews; President-Elect, Candice Gray-Bernard, who spoke about the need for us as citizens to become more ‘aware’ and conscious of our impact on the environment; and Paulla De Souza, Image Consultant who provided easy and quick tips on how to complete a look, with makeup, hairstyles and accessories.

Entrepreneurs on display at the event were Established Styles, NuTH Lifestyle, King’s Specialty, Aurora Bitayson, Paulla De Souza and HBC Services.


Such a success was the event that plans are already afoot to host one in South in the coming months.

The annual sale of gently used, nearly new professional clothing first started in 2002 and has become AFETT’s major annual fundraiser. This event is aligned to AFETT’s mission to support women entering and re-entering the workplace, as good quality suits and business attire are made available at affordable prices. In keeping with our goal of “making women winners”, the event primarily targets women who may not be able to afford work appropriate clothing by making quality and affordable clothing easily accessible to them. The event also supports young women entering the labour force to dress professionally which will aid in their development and advancement.
